Days Out - Looking for recommendations. :D

  • Jun. 24th, 2009 at 10:57 PM
Personal - Together
Now we have a car (forgot to mention that, Fred got a car!) I'm looking forward to being able to take Orion out for regular day trips to nice places. This is the list of places I have so far:

Manor Farm
Royal Victoria Country Park
Queen Elizabeth Country Park
Devil's Punchbowl
Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway
Paulton's Park
Marwell Zoo
Mid Hants Railway Day Out With Thomas
Southsea Castle
Blue Reef Aquarium

So local (Hampshire and surrounding areas) people, please recommend me your favourite places to go for day trips, especially those that are kid-friendly. :D

Winchester Castle is amazing, but you'd have to be prepared for lots of games of hide and seek :P

Good one! We like hide-and-seek though Orion is terrible at it - "You go and count Mummy, I'll hide in here!" ;o)

Also, Moors Valley Country Park is lovely, as is Harold Hillier Gardens THAT place would be fab for pics!

Old Sarum Castle is pretty cool also. English Heritage have loads of brilliant places, i'd take a good look at their website! :)

Bird World isn't *that* far from here either!

And if you fancied a bit of a drive and an outing for Ginge too, you could also try Monkey World too! ;P

The Intech Science Centre in Winchester. I haven't been there in years but I know my cousins go regularly and it looks really good fun.

I do know that it can be reasonably pricey these days. (When I was a child it was free.) There is a cafe for example but if you want to bring a packed lunch you have to go back outside to eat.

That said it's definitely a fun, entertaining and different day out. Lots of interactive exhibits.

All the above! And Portchester Castle for a quick trip. We used to be taken to Old Winchester Hill fairly regularly, which I think is off the A32 near Warnford/West Meon somewhere. There isn't much there, just lots of space to run and some old burial mounds, it used to be a place to break the journey back from relatives when we were fed up with sitting in the car.
The funfair at Hayling is miles better value than the Southsea one, and they used to have a nice indoor play place too.
